This study examines the main stages of digital publishing workflows in open-access academic journals and the relationships between these stages. It aims to provide a systematic overview of manuscript submission, initial editorial assessment, peer review, and post-publication access. The study adopts a conceptual approach and focuses on the functions of digital journal management systems in academic publishing. The analysis highlights the importance of clearly defined procedures, explicit role allocation, and reliable automated notifications for effective editorial operations. However, the efficient use of digital systems depends not only on technical infrastructure but also on the consistent implementation of editorial policies. The study provides a basic conceptual framework for evaluating digital workflows in open-access journals.
