Publishing Practices

Numanlu publishes its peer-reviewed academic journals through Open Journal Systems (OJS), an open-source journal publishing system developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). OJS is the shared journal publishing platform that supports the management of different stages of journal publishing, from receiving manuscript submissions and conducting editorial assessment and peer review to production and making articles available online.

Numanlu’s peer-reviewed academic journals use this common platform while maintaining their own editorial structures, policies, and publishing practices. Editorial assessments and publication decisions are made by the editorial team of the respective journal in accordance with its own policies.

Editorial and Peer-Review Processes

The publishing platform supports the editorial workflow from manuscript submission through initial assessment, peer review, revision, production, and publication. It provides the technical tools needed to manage these processes but does not determine the peer-review model used by a journal or the publication decision made on an individual manuscript.

Each journal determines its own peer-review model, reviewer selection practices, editorial responsibilities, and decision-making procedures in accordance with its policies. Detailed information about these practices is provided on the website of the respective journal.

Similarity Check

Numanlu uses Crossref’s Similarity Check service, powered by iThenticate, to support the assessment of potential textual overlap in submitted manuscripts. Similarity Check identifies potential text matches in submitted manuscripts and provides editors with a Similarity Report showing those matches. The Similarity Report allows editors to examine sections of the manuscript that match content from identified sources.

A Similarity Report is an aid to editorial assessment and does not, by itself, establish plagiarism. Identified matches are assessed in context, taking into account legitimate quotations, references, established terminology within a field, and other appropriate forms of textual overlap. Where further action is required, the appropriate course is determined in accordance with the policies and editorial procedures of the relevant journal.

Crossmark

Numanlu uses the Crossmark service for all research articles. Crossmark allows readers to check the current status of an article and to identify corrections, retractions, or other significant updates made after publication.

When a significant change affects the publication record of an article, the Crossmark record allows readers to identify that change.

Numanlu’s policy concerning the maintenance and updating of the scholarly record through Crossmark is available on the Numanlu Crossmark Policy page.

Digital Preservation

Numanlu supports the long-term accessibility of research articles and other academic content published in its journals.

As part of these arrangements, published journal issues are preserved through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a digital preservation infrastructure developed by the Public Knowledge Project and based on the LOCKSS Program.

Numanlu’s policy concerning the archiving and preservation of its publications is set out on the Numanlu Archiving Policy page.

Journal-Specific Policies

Numanlu’s peer-reviewed academic journals benefit from common publishing practices while maintaining their own editorial and publishing policies. These policies explain how the editorial and publishing processes of each journal are conducted.

Depending on the journal and its field, these policies may cover peer review, publication ethics, research ethics and misconduct in these areas, authorship and contributorship, conflicts of interest, complaints and appeals, data sharing and reproducibility, ethical oversight, intellectual property, open access, copyright and licensing, archiving, corrections and retractions, and post-publication matters. Making these journal policies publicly available is also a fundamental element of international principles of transparency and good publishing practice.

Journal-specific policies and further information about these practices are available on the websites of the respective journals.
